Endothermic humanoid bodies developed fevers to fight off infection. During a fever, the body temperature rises several degrees above normal. When exposure to the Galactic Barrier caused Gary Mitchell to begin mutating and developing godlike powers, he complained that "everybody seems worried that I don't have some kind of fever or something."[1]
