Stardate 42679.2: The crew encounters a duplicate Picard
In a bizarre turn of events, Picard comes face-to-face with his own double from six hours into the future, out of phase and disoriented after being recovered from a shuttlecraft that has recorded the Enterprise's destruction in a temporal anomaly. The duplicate Picard, dazed in a nightmare world, cannot communicate what happened, and the original Picard begins to fear that the ship will become trapped in a time loop.
When the anomaly appears on schedule and the Enterprise cannot escape, Picard nearly freezes with indecision and second-guessing. Energy bolts attacking Picard lead Troi to suggest that he is what the anomaly is drawn to, but when his double tries to leave the ship, Picard decides that reiterating his departure will only perpetuate the time loop. After stopping the alternate Picard with a phaser blast, he orders a full-speed course directly into the vortex. The duplicate Picard, his shuttle, and the anomaly all vanish, and the Enterprise finds itself once again on course, just as before.
