Sierra system (STO)

The Sierra system was home to Starbase 39-Sierra, and was the closest Federation outpost to the Romulan Neutral Zone, as well as the headquarters of Starfleet's Romulan Task Force. Following the Hobus supernova and the destruction of the Romulus system in 2387, Starbase 39-Sierra became the base of operations for rescue and relief efforts.
The planet that the starbase orbited was heavily mined by the Romulans in the 22nd century. It was believed that the miners hit hidden pockets of deuterium, causing a massive explosion that split the planet in two.[1]
