Nexus Issue 9 (Magazine)

It was 1984 and Nexus #9 has just been released, with an additional eight pages more than the last issue. This issue focused on the Star Fleet Universe and also on Starfire.
There was a list of Klingon ship names. An excellent article on painting battle stations was included. There is also a list of Federation frigate variations and war cruiser conversions for many empires. Origins 1984 had its report. There were the previews of then-forthcoming titles and of course, the Academy. Term papers and "Why" showed up in this issue. There was a story and scenario by Michael Bennett. Finally, there was also the inevitable (at the time) collection of errata.
Starfire had a good number of articles. The boxed set had just been released and there was an article that explored the changes. The third part of a series of articles on incidents from the first interstellar war showed up. Carrier rules that were new to Basic Starfire were published. Of particular interest was a one-page short story by David Weber. A series of scenarios by Mike Baker looked exciting. There was also an interesting pair of articles on the Ophiuchi Association. The Starfire section wound up with an article on painting minis.
Finally there was a preview of the boxed game Musketeers and new torpedo rules for Battlewagon.

Shipyard Report: Klingon Ship Names
This is the third in a series of articles listing ship names known to have been in use. (The Kzinti were in Nexus #7 and the Federation in Nexus #8.) As was noted in Nexus #8, several caveats apply. This is not a complete list, or a revised Klingon Order of Battle. Many other ships were in service; many of these names were carried by more than one ship; some ships changed names or were refitted as a different class while keeping the same name. The Klingons changed the names of many ships for security reasons at various times during various wars.
The names below are confirmed to have been in use by Klingon ships between the periods Y160 and Y185. Some ships on this list, of course, entered service several decades prior to Y160 but were still in service at that time.
Unlike the Federation, which tended to name ships for famous military leaders or famous "wet navy" warships, most Klingon ships were named for qualities or traits found desirable in a warrior race.

Frontier Patrol

The border areas of major empires are always active, even more so in wartime. Standard procedure was to send fighters, and later fast patrol ships, to investigate any interesting ships moving on the other side of the border.
This incident, in Y180, was typical of the more interesting such interceptions.
