Decius[1] was a subcommander aboard a Bird of Prey in 2266. On Stardate 1709.2, the ship was outfitted with new cloaking and plasma torpedo technologies and assigned to cross the Neutral Zone into Federation territory for the first time in a century. After the ship successfully destroyed Earth Outposts 2, 3 and 4, the ship was engaged by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 and the U.S.S. Farragut NCC-1647. After the ship was disabled and the commander opened negotiations with Starfleet Captain Christopher Pike in a bid to buy time for repairs, Decius sent a message to his own influential contacts back on Romulus without consulting with the commander first. When a fleet led by the praetor herself arrived soon thereafter, the commander had Decius relieved of duty and placed in the brig for his misconduct. Decius and the entire crew were killed when the praetor ordered the Romulan fleet to destroy the Bird of Prey.[2]
