The Lyran Leopard class destroyer (DD), introduced circa 2250, was used primarily to support larger ship in fleet actions, and was a fully-capable starship in its own right. The DD featured a crew complement of 260, a capacity of four shuttlecraft, and was equipped with two science labs, two transporters, two tractor beam emitters, and two mech tractors. The class was armed with an Expanding Sphere Generator, two banks of Type-2 disruptors, four banks of Type-2 phasers, and four banks of Type-3 phasers. The DD remained in service until 2280, when it was superseded by the DD+ refit, introduced in 2268. The DD+, which featured stronger shields, remained in service until 2292, when it was superseded by the DDP refit, introduced in 2286. The DDP variant had a revised armament loadout, with an Expanding Sphere Generator, two banks of Type-2 disruptors, six banks of Type-2 phasers, and two banks of Type-3 phasers. The DDP remained in service until 2298.

The DDG-type commando destroyer variant was introduced in 2258, and served in the Lyran Empire for a long period of time. The DDG featured a crew complement of 290 — including 140 Marines housed in two barracks — a capacity of seven shuttlecraft, and was equipped with two science labs, three transporters, two tractor beam emitters, and two mech tractors. It was armed with an Expanding Sphere Generator, four banks of Type-2 phasers, and four banks of Type-3 phasers. The DDG remained in service until 2292, when it was superseded by the DDG+ refit, introduced in 2280. The DDG+ featured stronger shields, and remained in service until 2300. Most surviving DDGs were converted into Jaguar class commando war cruisers when the class was retired.[1]
