Asteroids were small chunks of rock, too small to retain an atmosphere, as their gravity wasn't strong enough to keep atmospheric gases close to their surfaces. Some asteroids were rich in minerals and resources, including precious metals.[1] Observation posts along the Romulan Neutral Zone were constructed on asteroids.[2] The colony ship Yonada was created from a hollowed-out asteroid by the Fabrini.[3]
