Starfleet Captain Anton Schaefer commanded a Malachowski class ship that was assigned as a training vessel at Starfleet Academy in 2256. Schaefer, who was of Australian heritage, had an easygoing manner and once joked about assigning one of his cadets as a bilge officer.[1] Mere hours into the cruise, the ship was lured into an attack by Klingon forces led by J'Ula, the matriarch of House Mo'Kai, and Schaefer was taken captive and killed.[2] Schaefer once served aboard the U.S.S. Endeavour with Thy'kir Shran.[3] Captain Durant considered Schaefer to be "the best of us."[4]
