The Lion class dreadnought, even with all of its refits, was not considered to be viable after the introduction of heavy dreadnoughts. The Lyran Star Empire were the last of the local powers to introduce a major refit that added additional weaponry and defenses beyond what was earlier thought possible with the spaceframe. The result was the Gir Lion class heavy dreadnought (DNH) in 2300, which was easily the equal of the other powers' heavy dreadnoughts.

The DNH featured a crew complement of 620, a capacity of eleven shuttlecraft, and was equipped with six science labs, six transporters, six tractor beam emitters, and six mech tractors. The class was armed with six Expanding Sphere Generators, six banks of Type-4 disruptors, twelve banks of Type-1 phasers, and four banks of Type-3 phasers.[1]
