Starfleet Cadet Ian Kwon graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2256. For his cadet training cruise, he was assigned to a Malachowski class vessel commanded by Captain Anton Schaefer as communications officer.[1] Mere hours into the cruise, the ship was lured into an attack by Klingon forces led by J'Ula, the matriarch of House Mo'Kai.[2] According to Cadet Tilly, Kwon and Cadet Peart had a combined IQ of 231, nearly rivaling that of Cadet Tamav. A science officer, Kwon retook his linguistics final at the behest of a fellow cadet, receiving a perfect score, which qualified him to serve as a communications officer as well.[1]
