Stardate 42859.2: Picard is the object of Lwaxana Troi's amorous advances

While picking up Antedian delegates on diplomatic escort duty, the Enterprise is joined once again by Lwaxana Troi, who comes aboard this time with full ambassadorial status. Deanna Troi is dismayed to learn that her mother is not only chasing Captain Picard again, she is also in the midst of the Betazoid "Phase" — a midlife cycle that quadruples — or more — a Betazoid woman's sex drive. Picard escapes from her dinner-for-two trap and flees into the holodeck to hide out and play Dixon Hill, his favorite fictional detective. Ambassador Troi moves on to a short-lived pursuit of Riker, then tracks both men down on the holodeck, only to fall for the program's bartender, Rex.

Meanwhile in sickbay, the icthioid Antedians have remained in a trance, their race's preferred state for deep space travel. Upon arrival at Pacifica for the conference, they awaken and prepare to beam down just ahead of the elder Troi. The whole flight having been a waste of time for her, Ambassador Troi demonstrates her telepathic powers by casually pointing out that the two Antedians are actually assassins, carrying undetectable explosives with which to bomb the conference. With security officers standing by, a departing Ambassador Troi manages to embarrass Picard one more time.
