A small Class-IV stardrive survey vessel with a crew of 47, the S.S. Beagle was commanded by Captain R.M. Merick. The Beagle was exploring Star System 892 in 2262 when it was damaged by meteors and drifted toward the fourth planet of that system. The crew of the Beagle was eventually captured by the inhabitants of the planet and forced to fight to the death in televised gladiatorial combat.[1]
