When the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 encountered the Taureans on Stardate 5483.9, Theela served as the Taurean Head Female. Centuries earlier, their world had been devastated by radiation that left the women unable to reproduce, and caused the development of a mutation that let them drain the life energy from men. All the Taurean men died, and the women became effectively immortal, drawing passing ships to their world every 27 years before the Enterprise crew was able to reverse the effects of the radiation and helped transport them to a new world, where they could start their lives over.[1]
