A standard Starfleet vessel for short-range missions, thousands of Type-8 shuttlecraft were assigned to starships and starbases throughout the Federation. Lightly armed, Type-8 shuttles only had two forward-facing weapons emplacements, and typically mounted an omnidirectional phaser bank and a micro-torpedo launcher.^[1]
