The Federation Starship Xenophon was a Marklin class[1] destroyer, and was commissioned circa 2185. On Reference Stardate 1/9405.29 (29 May 2194), the Xenophon, commanded by Captain Kelvar Garth, aka Garth of Izar, spotted a Klingon D-4 class cruiser near Axanar. A confrontation with the Klingon ship led to the discovery of a Klingon occupation force at Axanar, and the resulting Battle of Axanar sparked the Four Years War. The Xenophon was badly damaged in the battle.[2] The Larson class destroyer U.S.S. Xenophon NCC-4342 was commissioned on RSD1/9211 (November 2192), and served concurrently with its Marklin class sister ship.[3]

Notes and References

 1. It's unclear if the Marklin class Xenophon was intended to be a retcon changing the class of the Larson class Xenophon listed in the Federation Ship Recognition Manual from the previous year. Barring further evidence to the contrary, they are being treated as separate ships that, inexplicably, share the same name simultaneously.
