Delta radiation, often called delta rays, was a form of radiation that was harmful to Humans. Delta radiation was created within a ship's warp core, but personnel were protected by shielding built into the reactor. In late 2266, Fleet Captain Christopher Pike was subjected to high doses of delta radiation when a baffle plate ruptured on an old J class ship being used as a cadet training vessel, and he rushed in to save the cadets.[1]
