Lieutenant O'Neil was assigned to engineering aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2267. On Stardate 3156.2, he and Lieutenant Sulu were assigned to survey Beta III while the Enterprise investigated the disappearance of the U.S.S. Archon NCC-189 a century earlier. Sulu and O'Neil were quickly identified as outsiders, however, as their clothing was not accurate to the local population, and both were absorbed into the Body of Landru. When Landru was deactivated, both men returned to normal.[1] On Stardate 5693.2, O'Neil was on duty in the transporter room when the Enterprise attempted to rescue the U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764, which had been trapped in an interphase rift.[2]
