Alpha Carinae II was a Class M planet with an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere. The planet was the subject of an initial survey as part of the testing of the M-5 computer on Stardate 4731.3. While the computer recommended Commander Spock, Astrobiologist Phillips, and geologist Ensign Carstairs, Captain Kirk questioned why it picked Carstairs over chief geologist Rawlins, as well as omitting Kirk and Dr. McCoy.[1]
