The second of two planets orbiting Alpha Majoris, a red giant, Alpha Majoris II had no native corporeal life forms.[1] The planet was the home of the Mellitus, a semi-intelligent plasma-based creature.[3] Unlike the similar dikironium cloud creature of the Tycho system,[4] however, the Mellitus was a docile creature.[3] Settled by Humans shortly after the founding of the United Federation of Planets in 2087, by Reference Stardate 2/2306 (June 2223) the planet boasted a population of 5.5 billion, and was a full member of the Federation. Alpha Majoris II was also famous for its many rare and beautiful gems, which were prized throughout the galaxy for their purity and elegance.[2]
