Construction on the Federation Starship al Rashid, a Ptolemy class transport, was authorized by the Articles of Federation (Stardate 0965).[1] In Y164, the al Rashid suffered an accident that caused the warp drive to lock, plunging the ship into the neutral zone between the Federation, the Kzinti Hegemony and the Klingon Empire. Two Kzinti vessels offered to tow the ship back to Federation space, but a Klingon D-6 class vessel attempted to seize the al Rashid and tow it to Klingon space.[3]
