Le matyas were a wild predator species on Vulcan that resembled Earth mountain lions and produced a lethal venom that was injected into their prey via their claws. Spock was attacked by a le matya on 20 Tasmeen 8877 (Vulcan Calendar), but was saved by his pet sehlat, I-Chaya and his older self, who had traveled back in time to save his own life and was posing as a distant cousin, Selek. Unfortunately, the le matya managed to scratch I-Chaya with its claws, and the sehlat did not survive.^[1]
