While on a mission to Psi 2000 on Stardate 1704.2, Lieutenant Joe Tormolen became infected with an unknown disease, which he inadvertently brought back to the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. The disease acted in many ways like intoxication, bringing deeply-repressed feelings about the impact of space travel on civilization to the surface. Overwrought, Tormolen stabbed himself with a knife, and ultimately died on the operating table.[1]
