Radio was a technology that used electromagnetic waves to transmit data at the speed of light. In 2254, eighteen years after the crash of the S.S. Columbia, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 received what appeared to be a radio distress call from its last known location in the Talos Star Group, eighteen light years distant.[1]
