February
- RSD 1/4802.20 (20 February): The expensive and ill-fated Tritium class cruiser, U.S.S. Tritium, enters service, never meeting any design specifications, proving to be, in the words of chief engineer Rex Opperman, an "Edsel," as the experimental three-nacelle design proves unworkable. Numerous high-level Star Fleet personnel are discharged as a result, and all six Tritium class ships will be decommissioned within seven years.[1] The Tritium Shuttle, however, fares better, and remains in service until 2173.[2]
