The Kalar were a neanderthaloid species native to Rigel VII. Captain Christopher Pike was forced to fight a Kalar warrior during a disastrous First Contact mission in 2254 that killed two of his crew, including his yeoman, and injured seven others, including Lieutenants Spock and Tyler.[1]
