- RSD 1/7008: The fastest ship to date, the Baton Rouge class, becomes part of Star Fleet, achieving a maximum cruising velocity of warp 4.8. A total of 220 ships will be built, and the class will remain in service until 2210.[2][3]
September
- RSD 1/7009: Th'allt, an Andorian colony world, appeals to the Federation Council for economic protection from Tellarite merchants. The Bureau of Interstellar Commerce fails to take timely and effection to resolve the situation.[3]
- RSD 1/7009 through 1/7201 (September 2170 through January 2172): The Internal Activities Unit of Starfleet Intelligence conducts Operation Archimedes, which discovers sociopolitical problems on Th'allt, but allows them to develop instead of reporting them. The failure of Star Fleet Intelligence Command and other agencies to act leads to armed intervention by Admiral Hathari. This was a major public relations setback for Star Fleet Intelligence as well as for the entire Federation Council.[4]
