First contact by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2254 was disastrous, and resulted in three dead and seven wounded among the Enterprise contact team. Rigel VII, a Class M world, was inhabited by a belligerent neanderthaloid race called the Kalar,[2][3] which had a population of about 725,000.[1]
