Myriad Universes: subspace communications
Technology allowing for Faster-than-Light communication.[1] The first test of "warp radio" — between Pluto and Earth on Reference Stardate 0/7404.17 (17 April 2074) — was a complete success, and its introduction allowed communication between nearby star systems in weeks rather than years.[2] Harcourt Fenton Mudd used subspace radio to contact the miners on Rigel XII, hoping to arrange a deal and undercut Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. The miners were married to the wiving settlers that Mudd was transporting, but when it was revealed that the deal was a narcotic-fueled fraud, Kirk assured the miners that the marriages could be annuled.[1]
