Myriad Universes: combadge
A combadge was a compact communicator that could worn as a piece of jewelry[1] or as part of a Starfleet uniform. Starfleet combadges also incorporated universal translator technology, as well as tracking hardware to enable rapid location of personnel on a planetary surface.[2] Combadges were used by Section 31[3] as early as 2256,[4] but did not enter widespread Starfleet use until at least 2344.[5]
