Small cargo vessel type operated in the 23rd century. On Stardate 1329.1, Harcourt Fenton Mudd was operating a J class cargo vessel; when he was approached by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, he fled into an asteroid field, destroying his ship just as he and his passengers were beamed away.[1] Although the two shared a name, this was not the same type of ship as the J class freighters operated by the Earth Cargo Service in the 21st and 22nd centuries.[2]
