Finnegan was an upperclassman at Starfleet Academy during James T. Kirk's first year in 2251. Of Irish stock, Finnegan delighted in tormenting the serious young Kirk with an unending series of pranks and practical jokes. On Stardate 3025.3, while visiting the amusement planet in the Omicron Delta region, then-Captain Kirk inadvertently conjured into being simulacra of Finnegan, allowing him to finally live out a fantasy of "beat[ing] the tar out of him."[1]
