First contact by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2196 was disastrous, and resulted in three dead and seven wounded among the Enterprise contact team. Known to the natives as "Aulia," Rigel VII shared an orbit with its sister planet, Sirk (Rigel VI). Aulia, a large Class M world, was inhabited by a belligerent neanderthaloid race called the Kalar, which had a population of about 10,000 and rated about D+ on the Richter Scale of Cultures.
