Decius[1] was a subcommander[2] aboard a Bird of Prey. On Stardate 1709.2, the ship was outfitted with new cloaking and plasma torpedo technologies and assigned to cross the Neutral Zone into Federation territory for the first time in a century. After the ship successfully destroyed Earth Outposts 2, 3 and 4, Decius sent a signal back to his influential contacts back on Romulus, alerting the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 of their location. Decius was relieved of duty and demoted two steps by the ship's commander for his carelessness and for disobeying his orders to maintain communications silence during the mission. The ship was severely damaged in the ensuing combat, and Decius and the entire crew were killed when the commander ordered them to self-destruct rather than surrender or be captured.[1]
