Tellar System[1]
System Data
System Type: Binary system consisting of a Type K primary and companion.[2]
Location: Tellar Sector (Sector 007), Alpha Quadrant[2]
Affiliation: United Federation of Planets[3]
Inhabited Worlds: Tellar Prime[4] (61 Cygni IV)[2][5]
Other Planets: Five[1] planets of classes B, C, K, J & N[1][Notes 1]
Artificial Objects: Starbase 223,[1]

The 61 Cygni system,[2] also known as the Tellar system, consists of six planets[1] orbiting a binary pair of Type K stars in the Alpha Quadrant.[2] The Tellarite homeworld, Tellar Prime,[4] is the fourth planet in the system.[5] The system's other planets are Rukor (61 Cygni I, Class B), Thenar (61 Cygni II, Class N), Sivel (61 Cygni III, Class K),[Notes 2] Varagas (61 Cygni V, Class C), and Boragus (61 Cygni VI, Class J). Boragus also has five moons, three of which are home to Tellarite colonies.[1]

Only Thenar remains unsettled.[1] The first Tellarite astronaut, a scientist named Ranx, designed his own, experimental spacecraft in the Earth year 1867. Ranx died when the ship crashed on Thenar, but he became the first Tellarite to enter the atmosphere of another planet.[6] Thenar proved too difficult to terraform and settle, although it was once home to several mining operations.[1]

By 1892, the Tellarites had begun to conquer their star system. Colonies were established on Rukor, Sivel, and Varagas, as well as on three of Boragus' moons. Tellarites then spent the next fifty years improving these colony outposts, so that they could survive any disaster.[6]

Notes

  1. The Last Unicorn Games (LUG) Star Trek Roleplaying Games (1998-1999) expanded upon the planetary class designations established on screen. Classes D, J, L, and M, had previously been established, and LUG added Classes F, G, H, and K. These were, however, contradicted by the later Star Trek: Star Charts (STSC, 2002) and planetary classes listed in the LUG books have been adjusted to comply with STSC as follows: Class F is now Class B, Class G is now Class C, Class H is now Class K, and Class K is now Class N.
  2. "Planets of the UFP: A Guide to Federation Worlds" (LUG #25102) stated that Tellar Prime, referred to simply as "Tellar," was the third planet in the Tellar system, with the Class H (K) planet Sivel the fourth planet. "Worlds" (Decipher #7), however, stated that Tellar was, in fact, the fourth planet. To resolve this conflict, the positions of the two planets in the system have been reversed.
