- The Freedom class, Earth's first warp 4-capable starship class, is commissioned at about this time. Freedom class vessels include the Franklin.[1]

- RSD 0/9604: The Arrow and Galliant class short-range starfighters enter service. These vessels are extremely maneuverable at sublight speeds, but are only armed with light weaponry. They are designed to be used at the new starbases for local defense and interception duties. Assigned in squadrons of 21, a total of 315 will be built. Meanwhile, the Andorian Taholsin class is commissioned; 1030 will be built over the next 14 years.[2][3]

- Reference Stardate 0/9211.03 (3 November): An early United Earth contact with the Romulan Star Empire occurs when the Atlas, a cargo ship with a crew of 92 commanded by Captain Genevieve Horowitz, is attacked and destroyed by Romulan forces, though the identity of the Romulans remains unknown to the United Earth government for many years.[3][4]
