The Code of Hammurabi was one of the earliest codes of laws on Earth, and included significant legal protections for individual rights.[1] Attorney Sameuel Cogley referred to the Code of Hammurabi during his impassioned defense of Captain James T. Kirk, who was facing a court martial.[2]
