Located along the Romulan Neutral Zone in Sector Z-6[1] of the Beta Quadrant,[2] Comet Icarus IV was described as "a marvel in the darkness" by the commander of a Romulan Bird of Prey that attacked several outposts on the Federation side of the Neutral Zone on Stardate 1709.2. During an engagement with the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, the Bird of Prey attempted to hide in the comet and use it for an ambush of the Enterprise, but the commander did not expect Enterprise Captain Kirk to anticipate his maneuver, resulting in severe damage to his vessel.[1]
