Sputnik (ENT 28)

Sputnik 1 was launched on 4 October 1957, becoming Earth's first artificial satellite. It had a profound effect on the world and enabled the Soviet Union to take the lead in early space development. Sputnik measured 57.9cm and massed 83.6kg.[1] Unknown to humanity, the launch was also observed with interest by a Vulcan survey vessel, which crashed near Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania soon afterward.[2]
