U.S.S. Exeter[1]

The Constitution class[1] Starship Exeter was commissioned in March 2248, and refit to Mark III specifications in July 2261.[2] In 2268, the Exeter visited planet Omega IV, where Captain Ronald Tracey brought back a deadly virus from an ancient bacteriological war, which infected his entire crew and reduced them to dehydrated crystals. Having developed an immunity from the planet's atmosphere, Tracey returned to the surface and became involved in the internal struggles there, providing the primitive civilization with phasers. Tracey was discovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 and arrested on charges of violating the Prime Directive.[1] The Exeter was scrapped, rather than risk exposing a new crew to any lingering microbial agents.[2]

Note

The "Star Fleet Technical Manual" lists the Exeter's registry as NCC-1706; this contradicts the registry given on screen, and must be disregarded.
