- 12 August:[3] The United Federation of Planets is formed. The original signatory powers include United Earth, Alpha Centauri, Vulcan, the Andorian Empire, and Tellar Prime.[4] While Enterprise NX-01 is en route to Earth to allow Jonathan Archer to give the opening address at the signing ceremony, the ship is attacked and Charles "Trip" Tucker III is killed. Enterprise is decommissioned and placed in the Starfleet Museum following the ceremony.[5] The new Federation ushers in a century of unprecedented peace in the region.[6]
