- RSD 1/02: Ursula Yare of Earth is elected President of the Federation Council.[1]
- RSD 1/02: The U.S.S. Horizon, the flagship of the Federation Star Fleet under the command of Captain Stuart Mann, visits Sigma Iotia en route to the edge of the galaxy.[2][1]

Mercury class scout (SFC)
- RSD 1/0202: Federation officials become increasingly concerned as the Romulans continue to conduct warlike actions. With the enemy no longer seen as mere "space pirates," many in the Federation now believe the entire Romulan race may be devoted to the goal of organized, violent aggression.[2][3]
- RSD 1/0202: Star Fleet Command's Mercury class scout, with a complement of 62, is commissioned. It serves as the Galaxy Exploration Command's primary small scout for nearly three decades. Just under 400 will be built.[2][3]
June
- RSD 1/0206: Starbase 6 is completed and assumes operational status.[3]
September
- RSD 1/0209.10 (10 September): An escorted convoy of G'buqoff class transports in Sector 10E is attacked by three Romulan cruisers. The defending vessels are able to drive off the attackers with light losses in the first successful convoy defense. The success of tactics used in this engagement convinces Star Fleet strategists that ship-to-ship victories are possible against the Romulans.[3]
