Miri was born c.1953 on UFC 347601 III, a duplicate of Earth located hundreds of light years from the Sol system.[1] After the failed Life Prolongation Project resulted in the deaths of the planet's entire adult population, she was one of the children left behind. Her lifespan was massively extended by the virus, causing her to live for centuries. She was part of a group of Onlies encountered by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 when it visited the planet on Stardate 2713.5. She began to show early signs of the virus, due to being older than most of the other children, which helped Captain James T. Kirk — for whom she had begun to develop an attraction — convince her and the others that the fate they had seen befall other, older children like Louise would eventually happen to all of them. Miri helped Kirk and the other Enterprise crew members to retrieve their communicators in time for them to complete work on a cure to the virus.[2][3]
Notes and References
- ↑ The details of the planet were significantly changed in the novelization by James Blish. In that story, the planet was 70 Ophiucus IV, an Earth colony 15 light years away and founded centuries earlier at the dawn of the age of space colonization, not a duplicate Earth as shown in the episode.
