A native of Aberdeen, Scotland,[1] Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott[2]—known affectionately as "Scotty" to his friends[3]—was the chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 from 2265[2] until the ship's destruction in 2285.[4] Scott worked on trade ships before joining Starfleet.[5] Scott enjoyed partaking of alcoholic beverages, and had amassed a sizeable collection of alcohol from across known space, including at least one drink he couldn't identify.[6]
