The Tiger class cruiser (CA) was introduced circa 2250. A superb cruiser designed for patrol and combat duties, the Tiger was quite able to stand up against any other cruiser class in the area. The class served as the flagships of the counts, and Tigers carried a flag bridge as a result. The CA featured a crew complement of 420, a capacity of five shuttlecraft, and was equipped with four science labs, four transporters, four tractor beam emitters, and four mech tractors. The class was armed with two Expanding Sphere Generators, four banks of Type-3 disruptors, four banks of Type-1 phasers, and six banks of Type-3 phasers. The CA remained in service until 2283, when it was superseded by the CA+ refit, which was introduced in 2271. The CA+ had improved shields, and remained in service until 2296, when it was superseded by the CAP refit, which was introduced in 2287. The CAP had a reworked armament, replacing two of the Type-3 phaser banks with Type-1s.

The spaceframe was modified for a number of variant classes, including the Panther class light cruiser, Bengal Tiger class command cruiser, Java Tiger class heavy command cruiser, Wildcat class battlecruiser, and the Hellcat class heavy battlecruiser.[1]
