The Federation Starship Cerritos, a California class vessel, was in active service in the late 24th century. The Cerritos specialized in Second Contact and was commanded by Captain Carol Freeman. The ship's shuttles were all named for California state and national parks, including the Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Redwood, and Yosemite. On Stardate 57436.2, following a layover at Douglas Station, the crew became infected by a rage virus while conducting second contact with the Galardonians.[1] The Cerritos was diverted from a planned conference at Cardassia Prime when the location was changed on Stardate 57501.4, and ordered instead to deliver gifts to the Gelrakians.[2] On Stardate 57538.9, the Cerritos worked with the U.S.S. Merced NCC-87075 to tow a generation ship to Douglas Station, but a disaster resulted in the loss of the Merced and severe damage to the Cerritos.[3] The Cerritos, now repaired, joined the U.S.S. Vancouver NCC-70492 in a mission to demolish the unstable moon of Mixtus III.[4]
