The Federation Starship Nelson was a Larson class destroyer[1] commissioned in 2212, and was commanded by Captain Susan Haseltein. Lieutenant, j.g. Pavel Chekov served as the Nelson's Chief Navigator from 2212[2] until 2217.[3]
On Reference Stardate 2/1711.17 (17 November 2217), the Nelson, along with the U.S.S. Bombay, the U.S.S. Houston NCC-2756, and the U.S.S. Intrepid NCC-1707 were sent by Starbase 12 to aid the Baker class destroyers U.S.S. Richardson and U.S.S. Taylor in defending the Reliant class cruiser U.S.S. Vindicator NCC-26246 from task force of eight Klingon vessels. The Richardson and Taylor took serious damage, but the Federation fleet emerged victorious.[1]
