The Federation Starship Saladin was a Larson class destroyer commissioned on Reference Stardate 1/9507 (July 2195). The Saladin was refit to Mark II specifications on Reference Stardate 2/0109 (September 2201), giving it more powerful phasers and an additional torpedo launcher.[1] Lieutenant Commander Leonard Konigsburg commanded the Saladin[2] until circa 2203, when Commander James T. Kirk succeeded him as the ship's captain, a position he held until his promotion and transfer to the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2207.[3] Kirk was joined by Lieutenant Gary Mitchell, an old friend from Star Fleet Academy whom Kirk had requested on his first command.[4] On Reference Stardate 2/1103 (March 2211), the ship was refit again to the Mark VI configuration, and Reference Stardate 2/1512 (December 2215) saw another refit, this time to the Mark VII specifications. As of Reference Stardate 2/2306 (June 2223), the Saladin was still on active service.[1]
