Construction on the Federation Starship Maat, an Achernar class cruiser (a variant of the Constitution class), was authorized by the Star Fleet Appropriation of Stardate 5930[1] and commissioned circa 2196. The Maat served during the Four Years War. After the conflict ended in 2198, all Achernar class vessels were decommissioned and destroyed in weapons tests as part of Star Fleet's postwar demilitarization.[2]
