These unnamed men were members of an expedition from the American Continent Institute aboard the S.S. Columbia in 2236. When the ship was exploring the Talos Star Group, it crashed on Talos IV, killing all but one member of the expedition, Vina. While the individuals encountered by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2254 proved to be an illusion created by the Talosians, they were based on real people, taken from the memories of Columbia survior Vina.[1]
