The Federation Starship Richtofen was a Larson class destroyer constructed to Mark II specifications and commissioned on Reference Stardate 2/0111 (November 2201). The Richtofen was refit to Mark VI specifications on RSD2/1311 (November 2213). On RSD2/1502 (February 2215), the Richtofen was recalled for an engine refit and scheduled maintenance to shipboard systems. As the ship's refit and systems checks neared completion, spirited ensigns and sympathetic workers painted the ship bright red in honor of its namesake. Star Fleet Command decided to leave the ship that color, despite the breach in regulations, though all officers involved were mildly disciplined. The ship was refit again to Mark VII specifications on RSD2/1712 (December 2217). As of RSD2/2306 (June 2223), the Richtofen was still in active service, assigned to the Klingon border.[1]
